MOKARRAN
UAV developed 2023-2024
Mokarran is a fixed-wing VTOL Unmanned Aircraft (UA). A tri-copter, tiltrotor configuration is used, two motors are mounted at the end of the fuselage booms with an additional rear motor for use in vertical flight.
Mokarran takes off vertically from a stand and transitions to fixed wing flight once at altitude. The transition process involves the front motors rotating into the horizontal position, with the rear motor powering down.
The UAS will then fly through designated waypoints automatically and drop the payload at the set location. Prior to landing, Mokarran returns to vertical flight, and lands on the ground.
Engineering Design Ethos
Mokarran employs a blended wing profile, selected to optimise the aircraft for reduced drag and increased endurance, particularly following payload release. The reduced fuselage area also allows for a greater reduction in structural weight when compared to a conventional fuselages. Wing sweep is employed to move the aerodynamic centre rearward for optimum longitudinal stability.
The entire upper skin panel is secured by off the shelf snap pins and is removable to allow access to the battery and navigation bays.
Twin scoop air intakes are incorporated into the upper skin panel to facilitate the cooling of the navigation bay. This removes the need for active cooling elements such as fans, saving weight. Two outlets at the trailing edge allow air to escape the fuselage.
Out The Box Experience
Mokarran is designed for rapid and easy toolless assembly as time is critical during a humanitarian crisis.
The aircraft can be broken down into the two wing sections and two ruddervators which makeup the V-tail. all connections are secured primarily with quick release pins and Reusable cables ties as the secondary method of attachment. These are secured via anchors on the inner and outer spars.
In the rare event that a Mokarran experiences a loss of both gps and radio operator control, the auto pilot subroutine will execute resulting in Mokarran readjusting to level flight and performing horizontal turns for 1 minute and 30 seconds while attempting to re-stablish connection.
When unable to re-connect Mokarran transitions to VTOL and performs a slow gradual descent until contact with ground has been made.
